Quick Hits: Amedei
Well, I have an enormous backlog of things that I have wanted to address. Between various addictions (WoW and House MD at the top of the list), hosting Thanksgiving for the family, and spending time with my rabbit I have had trouble writing much of my thoughts down. So I’m going to go back to “Quick Hits” mode. Tonight’s hit: Amedei Cioccolato al Latte Bianco con Pistacchi (White Chocolate With Pistachios).
Me and white chocolate haven’t gotten along properly for years and I think it’s all due to something horrible it did to me as a child. It was cruel and waxy and overly sweet and it left me scarred. In the past couple of years I’ve tried a number of really good white chocolates and we’ve slowly begun to reconcile.
The last couple of nights I’ve been snacking on this Amedei bar that I picked up at the New York Chocolate Show mainly because I wanted something with pistachio in it. It turned out to be a great move. The white chocolate is good stuff with a nice creamy body. Best of all it hits a perfect balance with the pistachio. Great stuff. It's got flavor and texture and I quite like it. And the pistachio is very well distributed through the bar so you get the whole experience in each bite.
White chocolate and pistachio: simple in content, but far more than the sum of its parts. This is white chocolate that I can really get into and as such I’m going to give it a 9 out of 10 and a high recommendation for those who can stomach the price ($12 a bar - very expensive). Strangely, this is my favorite from Amedei so far. And I’ve tried Chuao and Porcelana (I think there was something wrong with my Chuao or it was just wasted on me entirely – the Porcelana is a top shelf bar, but I don’t feel it’s all some people make it out to be – but that’s a subject for another night).

Wow - this bar sounds awesome!! I recently had a while chocolate Lindor truffle which I thought was pretty darn good, but I'm easy that way. Since you gave it such high marks, I'll even shell out the $12! Thanks for the review!!

Amedei's Tuscano Blanco is absolutely THE BEST white chocolate I have tasted! As you mentioned, I detest that waxy aftertaste I get in most white chocolate, and the reason is this one ingredient: soy lecithin.
