Review: Nestlé Crunch Crisp
I had to go to the grocery yesterday to look just in case there was a slip up and the Elvis Reese's Cups had made their appearance early (it's happened before) and while I did not find the prize I was after I did leave with a Nestlé Crunch Crisp bar which promises crispy wafers and chocolate crème. I figured it was new, I wanted chocolate (when do I not?), why not give it a shot? So it went back to work with me for an after-lunch snack (and, as I had no camera with me, I was unable to take a picture of it to share).
I hate to harp on ingredients, but I don't know if there is anything here that qualifies as chocolate. There is sugar, oil, cocoa, milk, lecithin, and fake vanilla, but no cocoa butter. Just lots of oil. A regular Crunch lists milk chocolate as it's number one ingredient (and includes cocoa butter in the sub-ingredients). But no chocolate on this label. Don't know what to make of that. Moving on.
The bar, in theory, is the horrific love child of a Nestlé Crunch and Kit Kat. In structure we have rice crispies on top of wafers layered with chocolate crème. It smells moderately chocolaty in the sweet candy bar kind of way. Kind of like a Kit Kat. It smells chocolaty, but not like chocolate. Texture wise it is all crunch all the time with this bar. The crunch is nicely satisfying, but the taste isn't anything amazing. It's not bad, mind you; it's just not as good as I had hoped. It doesn't have any real chocolate kick to it, just sort of a vague chocolate flavor.
Bottom line? Not bad, but I'll take a regular Kit Kat or Crunch bar over this just about any day. I'll call it a 5 out of 10. The catch is that while it's all new and exciting they've got them on sale for a quarter a pop at Kroger (don't know if this carries over to all of the other million and a half grocery chains that Kroger owns - Ralph’s, Fry’s, Smith’s, Fred Meyer, etc.- or if the "Plus Card" that we Krogerites are saddled with was required or not). At $.67 I'm not about to go buying another one any time soon. At $.25.... well, that's a price point I might roll over for.

I just stumbled on your site when I was searching for what people thought of this new candy bar. I agree with you, the bar is nothing great, but not bad, I think I would give it a higher rating than a 5 though, maybe a 7. I at first when I saw this thought, you got to be kidding, I have tried the butterfinger crisp and thought that was totally unsatisfying, but this satisfys me. I like the crispyness of the wafers, and I like the chocolate taste, its different than a crunch bar, I think the chocolate is light and fresh, it has a slight darkish chocolate flavor to it for me.
Here is a great thing its wonderful in. Get a Crunch Crisp bar, break it up into pieces and mix it into a Chocolate frosty or another favorite softened ice cream. :-)

Chocolate is made from cocoa, milk and sugar. To me, this tasted really chocolatey. And the oil is there to keep the chocolate creamy.

I really like this new Crunch Crisp Bar. I find it very satisying in both taste and crunch. Most candy bars are too heavy and leave me feeling bloated, this one however is light. I find the chocolate coating on the kit kat bar too thick, but the coating on this new Cunch Crisp Bar is light and flavorful and allows the crispy wafer to come through.

The new Nestle Crunch Crisp bar is absolutely HORRIBLE! It taste more like X-LAX than CANDY? What are they thinking...????????Do they ever taste test this stuff before hitting the market...Leave the OLD product alone...they are messing up the original Reeses Peanut Butter Cups the same way.

Have to say, I just had the unique esperience of taste testing many kinds of cheap candy without worrying about waste (kids candy, day after halloween) and the nestle crunch crisp was my favorite. Well, next to Take Five. All the other chocolate tasted too sugary and too waxy.

I got this for the halloween, and I would give it an 8 out of 10. This far surpasses both the regular crunch and the kit kat. It's more of a really buffed up kit kat then anything else, so I don't really see why people would perfer the kit kat over this?

I thought it was the best new candy bar I've tasted in a long time. Bought it to hand out on Halloween and loved it. Ate a whole bag in just a few days. Nestle Crunch meets Kit-Kat and what a lovely marriage it is! Chocolatey but delightfully light.

Hey.. don't be so down on the Nestle Crunch Crisp. Finally.. this is the candy bar that I've been looking for. It provides much more of that crispy wafer "meat" than any comparable bar (i.e. Kit Kat) could ever hope to deliver. And.. the coating is the trademark Nestle's crunch coating.
PERFECT IMHO! 10 out of 10.
Now.. if only I could find this on sale somewhere like you guys at Krogers.

I love the new nestle crisp candy bar. I have been missing the old Summit candy bar from the 80's for ages and this is the first candy bar that has come close. Now all they need to do is add a variation with nuts and we're there!!

I also love the Nestle Crunch Crisp. I am not a huge fan of the Nestle Crunch chocolate bar but the wafer is great! I love it, and wish I could find it in our grocery stores. It must be a test marketing case right now because I live in Phoenix and have not seen it anywhere. My aunt sends it to me from Chicago. I do like the mini one better than the full size; the full size one is too much all at once.
