White Chocolate M&M's

mmspiratespearls.jpgM&M's are going pirate! In one of those massive promotional deals M&M's is going to be offering pirate themed M&M products in conjunction with the forthcoming Disney release Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. Now that's news in itself, if only because it means that those Star Wars M&M's might finally disappear from stores (they're still there - I saw 'em this weekend) but the thing that is new and interesting is the introduction of a first in the M&M world: white chocolate M&M's. The variety pictured here (hopefully to be replaced with a better pic) is the White Chocolate Pirate Pearls. You'd think with that name they'd all be white (or at least pearl) but there are a few different light colors of them. They also have little piratey symbols on them that, naturally, incorporate the letter "M" so they don't stray too far from their established branding. In addition to the Pirate Pearls they will also be releasing Captain's Gold - Peanut M&M's in gold hues - and Jack's Gems - Milk Chocolate M&M's in "gemstone colors" (red, blue, green, and purple). There is also a M&M Minis Shipwreck Treasure Mix that changes color in your mouth from green to gold.

Star Wars brought us Dark Chocolate M&M's (the Peanut Dark Chocolate M&M's being one of my favorite things in life) and now Pirates of the Caribbean brings us White Chocolate. I'm not sure I really like the sound of them (I'm not really a white chocolate person) but I'll be sure to get a bag or two and give them a shot.

The new pirate-style M&M's will be available in stores May 12th. The M&M's Pirates website is up and is very nice. Some of the content is yet to come, but there are already games and good info to be found so check it out.

Similar to Mimi’s need for chocolate, I have a horrendous sweet tooth that is only sated by daily consumption of a bit of something sugary. My coffee table looks naked without a box of chocolate covered raisins, candy bar miniatures,... [Read More]

I saw someone else mention these and I'm really eager to try them.

William Said:

Seems it's old news. They apparently popped up on Junk Food Blog back in December! I don't know how I missed it back then, but oh well. At least now we have a release date.

Kristen Said:

These things rock!...if you like white chocolate that is ;)

Sereena X Said:

I hate white chocolate, even the "gourmet" kind. So I have no plans to try these M&Ms. The website is really nice, though.

Chocoholic Said:

May 12th huh! Can't wait to try them. Thanks for the post.

g Said:

May 12... I saw them at my local Giant on Monday. Guess they're a bit ahead of themselves. I didn't get any though... I was feeling cheap and they weren't on sale.

William Said:

Yeah, I've seen a lot of people report seeing them in stores already. I've been looking on a near daily basis and I haven't seen them yet. Hopefully I'll see some tomorrow - it is the 12th after all. Of course it could be like the Dark Chocolate M&M's where I couldn't find them hardly anywhere.
I suppose I won't die without them.

I like the white chocolate m&ms...

i think it's a pretty funny movie tie in...but hey, if it gives us a white chocolate tie than that's absolutly wonderful!

Unfortunatly, that just means when Pirates of the Carribbean isn't being marketed anymore then they won't be available...i guess I'll have to decide if it's worth stocking up.

If the Star Wars m&m's are any indication these will be around forEVER. And then re-released for the dvd (which will come out sometime before Christmas more than likely).

Louise Berube Said:

I live in the Worcester, MA area. Since I'm allergic to dark chocolate, I am very eager to try these white chocolate M & M's. Can you tell me where I could buy them? I've been looking and can't find them.

Lauren Said:

I found white chocolate M & M's at K-Mart and I'm in love. I'm not a fan of regualr chocolate, but love these. Anyone know where I can find them? I've been searching the internet and haven't found them yet.

Patricia Said:

I would like to find out how to get them to keep making the white chocolate M&M's!!!!!! I too am allergic to chocolate....I found the white chocolate this summer...I need them...I love them...I want them....I'm addicted to them....lol...Please tell me how we can get these back in the stores!!!!???? Thanks!!!

Robert Blaisdell Said:

I too love the white chocolate m&m's. I just finished my last bag. I can't find them anywhere. If anyone knows where you can still find them let us know. I ordered my last bag from Candy Warehouse online but it cost $40 for three bags of m&m's and only one was the white chocolate version. HELP! I want my white chocolate m&m's.

William Said:

There is a lot of interest in keeping these around - more it seems than there was for the dark chocolate version. All I can suggest is that you write the company and demand that they make them a full time addition to the product lineup. It seems like a good bet that they'll make the move.

In the meantime, the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest DVD is coming out December 5th here in the States and you can BET they will have more of these on the shelves in time for the release. Stocking up is recommended. While I do think that it is a natural addition to their lineup it will probably be another six to twelve months before they make it official.

Make sure to hit the promotional and seasonal aisles of the big grocery and drug stores as I tend to find them in these areas well away from the candy aisle more often than anyplace else. Also I've seen the small bags in gas stations as recently as last month so that may still be an option as well.

Good luck to the eager hunters. I think that if you keep your eyes peeled for the next month you should be able to find some. And be sure to contact Mars/Masterfoods and raise a ruckus. If enough people are screaming for them then it only makes sense for them to deliver.

Hmm... I think I might make a full post about this. It is important stuff.

Normally, I'm not into m&ms, but I'm absolutely addicted to the white chocolate ones. Previously, I could only find them in Wal-Mart, but when they sold out ... that was it (new production/ distribution) for DVD release would be awesome).

Fortunately, I found them again in Big Lots ... not sure if that's a regional store (PA, NJ, etc.) or nationwide. They had heaps of the medium-sized bags for $2. Needless to say, I pretty much bought them out :o) I'm now on a mission to get to all the Big Lots in my area!! Happy hunting :o)

William Said:

Big Lots is a great place for tracking this sort of item down. You really never know what you're going to find and they get some excellent items from time to time. Great find!

In case anybody lands here I put up a post with my thoughts on finding the white chocolate M&M's and what to do to try and make them a part of the normal lineup. Check it out!

Marttha Baker Said:

Please bring back the white chocolate. They are deliciuos and I am allergic to dark chocolate./

Gigi Said:

okay so now its april 2007 already and i found my last 8 bags of white chocolate M&M's at a shell station. Are they still makeing them?

William Said:

I ran into a TON (probably only 400-500 pounds, really) recently. It looks like they'll make a big push with the new POTC movie coming out next month. Certainly makes sense too since there's a lot of money tied up in it. Keep your eyes open and you should (hopefully) start to see them again.

Hi, I have been looking everywhere for some white chocolate m&m's.... My fiance' is coming back from the air force, and he loves them, and that is what he has asked me to bring with me to the airport when i go to pick him up, and i have checked everywhere!!! I Really want to get these for him! does anyone know where there might be some left over?

William Said:

I've seen them at Big Lots in the past couple of months, but that's it. I think the supply has probably dried up.

Hannah Said:

well, i checked big lot's, they didn't have any.... i was really bummed.... so i went to this place called roses, jus to get some normal chocolate m&m's, and i found 4 BAGS of white chocolate m&m's! I was so excited! so maybe there are a few more bags floatin around out there! :)

William Said:

Congrats! There are bags out there to be found, it just requires time, diligence, and (of course) luck to track them down. I'm glad you were able to make it happen.

Harsh Ranjan Said:

Dark chocolate is produced by adding fat and sugar to cacao. It is chocolate without milk as an additive. It is sometimes called "plain chocolate". The U.S.

Government has no definition for dark chocolate, only "sweet chocolate", which requires a 15% concentration of chocolate liquor. Sweet chocolate is not

necessarily dark chocolate as there is no restriction of milk in it. European rules specify a minimum of 35% cocoa solids

bella Said:

i love them but i cant find them any more!
